Dear Members
My penultimate newsletter to you all as my tenure draws to a close as president of this fantastic club. The club is now looking very fresh with the new carpet down, the vinyl on the dance floor area & around the bar looks great. Thank you to all those members who have commented to me on how nice it now looks, a special thanks also goes out to those members who have been an integral part of that change, either by carrying out that work or being involved in the decision making process allowing this to happen.
Once membership renewal has been completed the entrance door will be locked as a reinstatement of our entry system to comply with club rules; the CCTV system has been upgraded to ensure we have a safe level for staff, members and their guests’ security. The tills are at their end life and no longer supported so the committee are continuing with our options for the best replacement.
What’s been going on?
11th March - Mothers Day Lunch
What can I say Russell Keith went down a storm again keeping all the ladies happy and entertaining us through the afternoon? The three course lunch was sold out again this year, thanks to Gina, Steve, Lyn, Andy Payne, James Moss, Mike Stubbs, Rosie, Sonia, Adam, Paul Osborne(lovely soup) for assisting with the food prep, the table layouts, the cooking and your support most importantly. Oh and let’s not forget those children actively helping with the clearing up.
17th March - St Patricks Day
“Feckless” An Irish band with a twist were booked for this event, It was a great night with at least half the club getting involved with the dancing on offer. The Irish Stew was demolished, either I didn’t do enough or it was needed to soak up all the cheap booze on offer. Again thanks to the helpers with this
31st March - Jexit
Tokyo Joshie was a well-supported event organised by Andy Green, he was brilliant, (not Andy Joshie) best guitar playing I have heard for some time, if you are a Jam fan and didn’t come you missed a treat. Applauds go to Andy Green, Debbie & Andy Barnes for the food on offer, it was lush.
1st April – Childrens Easter Party
Easter Party was as usual a success, the entertainer kept them busy, Gina Celestine & Kerry did a fantastic job with the hot dogs and pizza t
6th April – Kev, Pat & Dave music night
What can I say; I loved it and cannot thank enough those guys for putting on a wonderful night. The club was extremely bust which testament is to the fantastic job they did last time to ensure that everyone came back to see them again.
14th April – Italian Job
Great band played at the club, it was a shame that only 17 members and their guests came to watch them, for those that didn’t you missed a treat and for those members I thank you and your guests for supporting. Thanks for your help Kerry.
What’s coming up?
21st April – Race Night

(Ticket only event & on sale now)
6th May – Last Hurrah
My ‘last hurrah’ and final entertainment for you is an afternoon treat with “Somethin Else” rocking the club on this Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon. Not to be missed if you like a bit of saxophone! This event only £5 which comes with a Burger and a Beer. (Names in the book for this one please)
Carlton Club Cook Book
Your recipes are needed. Robbie Astor is compiling a recipe book that can be sold to raise money for the Carlton Club charities. So far she has got 17 recipes, a few more would make a reasonable sized booklet. Contributions gratefully received. Recipes directly from books or TV can't be used because of copyright. She is looking for recipes that you or your family have made up or adapted for your use. You don't have to get cooking times and temperatures exact as it will be clear that it's a recipe book not a cook book. She is also also looking for sponsors to cover the cost of printing. You'd get a small advert or mention. Sam has offered to give a donation and advertise his horse feed. I'd be pleased to hear from other people. Email me at [email protected] . Thanks Robbie Astor
And finally don’t forget the usual events, Friday Club night “Key to a Fortune” is back now, First draw was one by Nigel Collins new draw is down to 11keys. Bingo is the first Monday of the month, karaoke is every other Sunday night with the quiz taking place every Thursday evening.
