President's Newsletter August

Hi Everybody
 
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I know it has been especially hard on some of our members over the last 18 months and the whole pandemic has reminded us all how fragile our lives can be sometimes.
 
I would like to set a positive scene moving forwards as the Club tries to bring some well-needed value to our social lives.
 
The AGM has been and gone and the committee is now in place for this year. I’d like to thank all the candidates who stood for committee this year and welcome two new additions in Sammi Owen and Abby Shawyer to the fore.
 
I know from experience how the committee works tirelessly to maintain the standards of the club. Countless hours of personal time is invested in adding value and experience to our club and your support of the committee will always be appreciated.
 
I’d like to remind our members we all collectively own the club and therefore we all have a shared responsibility to make it the best it can be.
 
As a not for profit organisation, we rely on and re-invest bar profits back into the running of the club. Every penny that gets spent in the club goes towards its upkeep and hopefully ongoing development and improvement as well.
 
If you have skills that would add value to our collective environment please let us know. From taking a turn at running the Thursday quiz through to wielding a paintbrush as quite a few did when we spruced up the garden for re opening. Every tiny piece of help adds value to our club and to the experiences enjoyed by everyone.
 
Equally, we are open to constructive ideas and whilst the committee is voted by the membership to make tough decisions, everyone has a voice.
One thing I’ve learned is with a cradle to grave demographic we can’t please everyone all the time, however we will always do our best.
 
Buildings
 
We had a moderate water ingress into the club during a recent storm that has caused a significant amount of damage which fortunately is covered by insurance. However, actioning a plan to remedy the damage is going to be challenging due to the availability of flooring contractors. We will keep you posted if any restrictions to the club need to be implemented in getting the work done.
 
Entertainment
 
To the members that supported England through the Euro Tournament we thank you for your support and trust that together we made the experience as good as it can be (despite the end result).
 
My personal thanks goes to Charlie Harris and Gayle Hamson along with every single member of staff that worked their socks off to deliver table service to everyone that attended.
 
Finally on the Euro’s
Congratulations to all the winning participants in the Euro competitions run by Charlie Harris. They were;

The 4k Projector and 130 inch screen was a welcome addition to our resources and now our members have a medium for televised events that is the envy of many pubs and clubs in the area.
 
We have negotiated hard with Sky Sports and BT Sports to obtain an equitable deal in bringing access to myriad of televised sports including Premier League Football, Champions League as well as International Rugby. Our Wifi was also upgraded to cope with streaming events.
 
The club would like to welcome you all for TV sports wherever possible although inevitably there will be the odd clash of dates.
 
BINGO will be moved from Monday 5th Sept to Monday 12th Sept due to Pompey being live on Sky Sports on Monday 5th September
