Dear Members
My last newsletter to you all L. (was that cheers I just heard?).
Slight technical issue from our suppliers at the moment for the membership’s cards but it will be resolved soon and when this has been completed the entrance door will be locked as a reinstatement of our entry system to comply with club rules; I would encourage all members to be “card ready”. Please get in the habit of ensuring you have your card with you to avoid disappointment.
What’s been going on?
21st April – Race Night
This had to be cancelled due to only 12 names in the book on the 15th April, perhaps Lesley will have this event during her year
28th April – Strumpet Town
The Northern Soul band, Strumpet Town went down a storm on the night. A few thank you’s from me for those helpers who gave up some of their time to assist in making this evening a success. Chris and John for setting up hall on Thursday, Lesley and Trish for the raffle and of course Kerry, Anne and Steve for the food.
What’s coming up?
Army v Navy 5th May
Coach is booked and those going will have a super time and I’m sure we will all be cheering on their teams. (Army for me) Start time is 09:00 at the club coach leaving 10:15.
5th May – Soul Suspects
Soul Suspects are booked for my “Informal Dinner” evening to thank all those who have supported me in the past year. I am planning to provide a whopping Charlie Chilli with lots of other surprise additions for the evening. £7 members & £10 for members guests, a value for money evenin.
(Please note Ticket only event & on sale now)
6th May – Last Hurrah?
My ‘last hurrah’ and final entertainment for you is an afternoon treat with “Somethin Else” rocking the club on this Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon. Not to be missed if you like a bit of saxophone! This event only £5 which comes with a Burger and a Beer. (Names in the book for this one please with payment)
11th May – Music in the Month night
I have an act booked for this evening, so please come along and support. The meat & booze raffle and Key to a fortune will take place at their usual times. There will also be a free raffle for the kids as well which will take place early on in the evening. I intend to have food throughout the evening to sustain you all.
Carlton Club Cook Book
Your recipes are still needed. Robbie Astor is compiling a recipe book that can be sold to raise money for the Carlton Club charities. So far she has got 17 recipes, a few more would make a reasonable sized booklet. Contributions gratefully received. Recipes directly from books or TV can't be used because of copyright. She is looking for recipes that you or your family have made up or adapted for your use. You don't have to get cooking times and temperatures exact as it will be clear that it's a recipe book not a cook book. She is also looking for sponsors to cover the cost of printing. You'd get a small advert or mention. Sam has offered to give a donation and advertise his horse feed. I'd be pleased to hear from other people. Email me at [email protected]
Thanks Robbie Astor

Don’t forget the date 16th May
And finally can I just say thanks to all of those who have shown me considerable support during my year of presidency, you know who you are. Without that support week in week out my year would have been a lot more difficult to get through. I would also like to encourage those members who, for some reason don’t attend the club hardly ever to think carefully about supporting it more often in the future. We currently have lots of people on the waiting list waiting to join this fantastic club, desperately wanting to use its facilities.
