Dear Members
My 6th newsletter to you and this one comes with an appeal to all members. The club has been extremely fortunate to have had robust policies & procedures in place over the past few years which enabled us to get through the pandemic and come out the other side in healthy position. I thank the administration for their careful work to allow this to happen as many other businesses suffered due to lack of preparedness.
Going forward we need members support to continue to keep this wonderful club in the present by continuing to maintain the existing fabric while ensuring the licenced area is always current. The present basic running costs are around £100,000 annually, allowing for one bar staff only. With 325 members is relatively easy to work out that the profit from bar takings are keeping our heads above the water, but only just. Subscriptions are currently £75 per year. This only accounts for around 25% of the basic running costs, a model which is extremely difficult to say is sustainable in its current format. We urgently need members to support the club by your regular attendance please.
With regret, I must inform members that unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated within the club. We set high standards & expect members & their guests to abide by those standards for everyone’s benefit. The committee will take the strongest action possible against any deviation from what is considered below our expected behaviour & values. A reminder too, that dogs are allowed in the club (there is some treats for them too on the bar) but they must always be on a short lead.
What’s been going on
We have been busy with the paint job finished (Well done Barry a Club member) & some of the new furniture arriving & put in place. No standing on them during any events. Okay😊.
Brooke Star entertained us again on the 14th due to the Queen sing-along being postponed for now. She’s back on Christmas Eve so make sure you’re there if you missed out this time.
The Beer Festival was a massive hit with many of you disappointed as it was a sell out event. We are limited on numbers in the club for safety regulations & also for the comfort of those attending. So, to prevent members missing out on events, my tip for you is to book your tickets early, especially for the rest of 2023 events. Big thanks to all who assisted in setting up with particular thanks to Phil Dunk, Steve, Lyn & Sonia for the food provided, which was well received. The Captains Beard band have expressed a wish to come back again next year as they had so much fun, so fingers crossed the next president puts them on..
Elvis is over half way full on Nov 11th, with Kojaks at the cut off point for Nov 18th. The Christmas Dinner Dance numbers is steadily climbing & likely to sell out soon, & so it should do given the price. A reminder for you that tickets for NYE go on sale 19th November as do places for kids Christmas event which is now planned for 10th December, a slight change due to staffing.
More information soon of our annual Panto – an event not to miss. 😊
